These windows are indeed heavy due to the thick aluminum profiles making up the frames surrounding the thick glass. The heavy sliding windows is ideal for the areas where a windows that project outward can be a hazard or just plain inconvenient. Each piece slides along an aluminum track with grooves to accommodate the wheels fitted to the bottom of each blade. The top keeps the blades in place to allow for easy and guided sliding. There is a safety on lock, which when engaged restricts access from the outside even when a key is used.
